NOTE
Inspired by the tragedy of the Turkish invasion in Cyprus in 74, Rengos created this study of what lead to the “Kypros’74” a large (120 x 90 cm) oil painting which he finished in 1975. The oil painting was eventually auctioned at the 23rd of May 2007 at Cypria Auction and achieved the highest ever hammer price for a Polykleitos Rengos painting.
What is unique and interesting about this study we are now auctioning, are Rengos’ numerous notes and thoughts about this work that are hand-written on the reverse of this artwork.
